A Boy told me I was PRETTY this week 😏

12/11/2017

So it came to my attention that some of my weekly emails didn’t go all
the way through, so here is try ✌🏼!

Hello Fan Club! Man this week has been a fantastic week, the work is
moving forward and Christmas Cheer is being thrown all around. AND I
LOVE IT!!! ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ I love the Christmas Season because it is the time
of year that everyone is thinking about Christ, although as a
missionary it doesn’t change much, but we love it just the same!!

This week after District Meeting we were able to do a power hour, just
an hour of tracting. BUT we decided to not just tract but we were able
to go caroling! We went with the other sisters and we just sang songs
to people. Not going to lie, there were the same amount of people that
closed to door on us that allowed us to sing them a song, which was
something that we weren’t expecting. But the couple of times that
people allowed us to sing were so spiritual. There was a little boy
who just had the biggest smile on his face and was doing a little
dance because he was so excited! Then there was a man and a woman who
sang with us and got pretty emotional with tears down their face.
After the song they offered us cookies! Seriously so grateful for all
of the people who have a faith in Christ, the spirit comes as we sing
the hymns!

Okay so this week we had a lesson with Ken and we expressed to him
that he needed to start living the Word of Wisdom by Friday, in order
to be baptized on December 30th. Well we talked to him and he wasn’t
very confident about it at all but he said that he was going to try,
that was on Tuesday evening! Wednesday morning we called Ken and he
hadn’t followed the Word of Wisdom that morning and we were super
bummed. Well Wednesday night we were at the church helping with a
mutual activity and we turned around and saw Ken in the door way with
his fellowshipper, his fellowshipper was giving Ken a tour of the
Church! We had literally just talked about having a church tour with
him that day! And we talked to him about what he thought and he loved
it! The next day we called Ken and asked him if he was living the Word
of Wisdom, and he said YES! Literally that church tour changed Ken and
he wants to do everything that he can to be apart of Christs church!
Oh and he was also at the Ward Christmas PARTY! And he loved it!!

So at the Ward Christmas Party they did this cool thing where they had
a Christmas Tree that they made it our Ward Family Tree! We used the
Family Tree app and tried the Relatives around me to find out who we
were related too. I found a lot of people, some 17th cousins and some
7th cousins. BUT the closest was a 3RD COUSIN! The Bishops wife and I
are 3rd cousins, super crazy. But then she started telling me so much
about that side of my family, and guess what. I am related to the
founder of Kneaders, I think we should get a family discount or
something for endless French toast? Can someone second this motion?

This week we were at a dinner and Sister Nielsen and I were sitting
across the table from each other. This 10 year old named Conner was
sitting next to me. Conner has ADHD and he literally doesn’t stop
talking. So he was talking my ear off this week and his parents told
him that he needed to be quiet for 5 minutes, they put a timer on and
everything. Well the timer went off and Conner looks at me, moves my
hair from my shoulder and tells me that I am pretty. I didn’t know how
to respond haha, and I thought that no one heard him, no everyone
hears everything Connor has to say. So a boy told me that I was pretty
this week.

Okay so we had a really cool miracle happen yesterday! We got a call
from the Harvard Elders today saying that they had a young woman in
their ward who had been coming to church for about a month and they
found out that she actually lives in our ward! So they got her contact
information and we called her last night. She started telling us that
she was super busy and she didn’t know when she could meet and then we
introduced Facebook, and she was so excited about it and scheduled a
time for us to chat with her tonight! We added her on Facebook and
sent her screenshots of how to download the Gospel Library App on her
phone and invited her to read Alma 32, within 5 minutes she was
sending us questions about her reading! We are so excited to meet with
her more! When we were on the phone with her she just told us about
how just feels at home when she was at church, and that right now she
really just wants to grow a better relationship with her Heavenly
Father. The spirit is so strong with her!!!

So for the month of December I am reading the entire Book of Mormon,
and there has been something that has been standing out to me the last
couple of days. In 3 Nephi 33:6 we read: “I glory in plainness; I
glory in truth; I glory in my Jesus, for he hath redeemed my soul from
hell.” I love in the Book of Mormon when Nephi talks about the
plainness that he loves. As we study the scriptures more we begin o
realize that the gospel is plain and simple. I have been grateful fo
the opportunity to teach and learn the gospel simply on my mission and
to be able to help people understand the plainness of the gospel.

Thanks for all the love and support Fan Club! I hope that you have a
great week and that you Light the World this week to everyone that you
talk to! Remember it starts with just one person!

— Remember who you are and who God EXPECTS you to become —

All Members, Missionaries and Investigators: “How long have you been on your mission?” Me: “Awhile”

 12/4/2017

Hey FAN CLUB. This week has been very rainy and very cold. But you know, the work has been moving forward at a rapid rate compared to the week of Thanksgiving! I am so grateful to be here in Sutherlin doing the work!

This week we went tracting and I was like “oh we should go tract those apartments!” And Sister Nielsen was like, “Oh my last companion said those have been tracted like a million times.” Me: “okay, lets do it for a million and one times!” We went and tracted those apartments and we have 2 new investigators now! This week we have been trying to use the Light the World video as most of our finding techniques. It is funny how when people see us that they aren’t really interested but when we tell them that we are sharing a quick 2 minute video about Jesus Christ and Christmas that they are suddenly willing to listen. But it has been amazing to see the hearts of people change as they watch people serving others during the Christmas Season. I LOVE CHRISTMAS.

We had a lesson this week with our on date for baptism investigator, Heather. It was my first time meeting with her and the spirit was so strong! So Heather was introduced to the Church because her son attends Boy Scouts. Well they invited her to come to the Halloween Party and while she was there she was introduced to the Bishop. She ended up talking to the Bishop for a long time about things that were going through her life and she really didn’t know why she felt like she could just talk to someone about the things she was talking about, especially because she had just met him. As we were talking about that experience she just wanted to know what made her feel that she could open up. We started talking about the Spirit and the peace that comes through the Spirit and the comfort that we can feel. We were reading in the Book of Mormon a couple of scriptures and the scripture that really stood out to her was Moroni 7 verses 13 & 16. She sat there and really thought about those scriptures and turned to us and said, “so all the good things are from God, I feel like all the things we have talked about are good.” It was such a cool experience! The spirit was strong and I think that she is on the right tract to be baptized on January 27th!

We had a really cool experience this week with Ken! He has a really good fellow shipper. He has been life long friends with these members and so they have come to almost every lesson that missionaries have had with him. So this week Sister Nielsen and I decided that we were going to commit him to Baptism. He has talked about how he really does want to get baptized and so we were going to put him on date. We read 3 Nephi 11 with him, the chapter that the Savior appears to the people in the Americas. As we read through we invited him to picture himself as Nephi in the story. The spirit was so strong and at the end it talks about the doctrine of Christ. It talked a lot about baptism, we could tell Ken was thinking and so we gave him a minute and then asked him what he was thinking. He said, “I want to get baptized!” WHAT. Okay, so we invited him to be baptized on December 30th and he accepted! That means Ken needs to be living the Word of Wisdom and coming to church by THIS WEEK. So please everyone pray for Ken! He is so awesome and really wants this, he needs all the prayers that he can get!

In 3 Nephi chapter 8 verses 20-23 we read:
“And it came to pass that there was thick darkness upon all the face of the land... And there could be no LIGHT, because of the darkness, neither candles, neither torches... And there was not any LIGHT seen, neither fire, nor glimmer, neither the sun, nor the moon, nor the stars... And it came to pass that it did last for the space of three days...”

6 years before Christ was born Samuel the Lamanite, in the Book of Mormon, told the sign of Christ’s death would be 3 days of darkness over the land. We read how that prophecy was fulfilled and much destructions happened in that period of time.

In 3 Nephi chapter 11 verse 11 Christ says:
“And behold, I am the LIGHT and the life of the world..”

During the 3 days after Christ was killed there was darkness, but when he came again there was LIGHT! This is the time of year to remember Him and to remember the LIGHT that he has brought into our lives. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has made this video to help us show how we can share that LIGHT with the people around us, in 25 ways and in 25 days!

#LIGHTtheWORLD

Thanks for all of your love and support family and friends! I am grateful for you and for the time I have to be a missionary. Don’t forget to go out and Light someone’s World today!! Love you!

It’s FINALLY the time of the year that I won’t get in trouble for listening to my FAVORITE music 🎄🎄🎄

11/27/2017

Hello Fan Club! It has been a wonderful week here in Sutherlin and I
am loving it, I am happy to be back here in the Burg!

So a little bit about my new companion, she is awesome by the way. Her
name is Sister Nielsen, she is from Las Vegas, Nevada and her favorite
thing to tell people is yes there are Mormons in Las Vegas, they even
have a temple, haha. She has been out on her mission for 6 full weeks
so I am here to help her finish her training. She is a HUGE Harry
Potter fan, loves Astronomy and has Latina in her blood so we both
love Mexican Food, win win! She is super fantastic and I know there
are going to be some fun adventures from this transfer.

So a little bit more about my area, I am serving in Sutherlin, Oregon!
It is about 13 miles north of Roseburg but it is still in the Roseburg
Stake. It is a small town, probably about 8,000 people. It is really
cute and the members that I have met so far are super great and I love
them already. The funny thing that Sister Nielsen always laughs about
is that the biggest news that ever happened in Sutherlin was the
opening of a Dollar General and a Dollar Store, and people to this day
still talk about it. But I love small towns so I am pretty sure that
we will get long very nicely (:

This week has been a lot of getting to know the area and seeing where
we are at with out teaching pool. It was a little bit hard with trying
to have lessons and such because of Thanksgiving a lot of people were
out of town so hopefully this next week we will be able to find more
success!

Speaking of Thanksgiving, we were treated very well, more like spoiled
in the food department, but we aren’t about to complain. We were able
to serve a Thanksgiving dinner at the Soup Kitchen here in town the
night before and that was a pretty neat experience. It was cool to see
all of the people that came out to serve the dinner but then it was
also good to know that you were helping so many people and they were
so grateful for the service. This one older gentleman even pulled out
his harmonica and played a couple of songs for us, it was awesome!
Then on actual Thanksgiving Day we were able to serve dinner to people
at our church! The Ward got a dinner together for the people that
wouldn’t normally have anyone to eat with so they were able to eat
with their ward family. it was super nice and so fun to see the love
that is here in this ward. So we ate there and then we had another
dinner that night with the Wolfe family! It was so good, and by the
end of the night Sister Nielsen and I had to be rolled out of that
house to come home for the night, haha! So we had a lot of things to
be grateful for that day! Grateful for a ward that takes good care of
their missionaries ♥️

We did get in contact with one of our investigators named Ken. He is a
pretty cool guy, he was actually a referral from someone in the good
old Melrose ward when it was still around! We tried all week to try
and find a member for Kens lesson since he is a male and we need a
female to teach him, and everyone we tried to ask was busy or out of
town (it was kinda hard since it was my first week, I was not much
help). So we ended up just stopping by and following up with him, last
lesson they invited him to live the Word of Wisdom! Well he has been
doing a great job, is certainly progressing and has been making
improvements but still could do better. We read with him Mosiah 2:41,
one of my favorite scriptures, and talked about how if he follows the
commandments of God that way day he can experience never-ending
happiness. He got a huge smile on his face and said that since he has
been meeting with the sisters that he has felt a lot of happiness, we
testified that he would be able to feel even more when he is living
the commandments fully and is face was in a sort of shock and said,
“well I better get to it!” What a funny man haha! I am excited to meet
with him again!

The other day we were trying to go and contact one of our
investigators but they weren’t home and Sister Nielsen had a feeling
to go and contact a Less Active, well we got there and found out that
the person had moved away but sine we were there we decided that we
should tract the street. We were then able to find this lady named
Heather who has never had religion in her life and she is expecting a
baby in a couple of months! she was is so prepared and instantly
accepted a Book of Mormon and said that we could come back tomorrow!
We are grateful for the inspiration that the spirit gives us every
day!

This week for training Sister Nielsen had to memorize the last 2
paragraphs in the Introduction to the Book of Mormon. One of my
favorite things that I have memorized, it says:
“We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in
their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal
Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue
this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and
divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.)
Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come
to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the
world, that Joseph Smith is His revelator and prophet in these last
days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the
Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the
Second Coming of the Messiah.”
The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion. As we come to know
that the Book of Mormon is true we gain a testimony of so many
different things, and all that we need to do is have faith and pray to
our loving Heavenly Father. He loves us and he is willing to give us
answers to our prayers, all we have to do is ask! The Book of Mormon
is my favorite thing to share with people as we are out talking. The
other night we had a really cool experience during a dinner message,
we were sharing the Book of Mormon and invited the members to share a
copy with their friend, instantly they both knew exactly who needed
it. I love the Book of Mormon and I am so grateful for the spirit that
comes when we are sharing it with those that we love!

As you all know the Light the World video came out!! Woohoo! I am so
excited to be able to for another year to be able to Light the World!
#LighttheBurg

Thanks for all the love and support Friends and Family! Hope you all
have a wonderful week! WORK HARD

The Lost Raincoat 🌧

11/13/2017

You know it is going to be a great week when on Monday your companion loses her rain coat and this is the forecast for the whole week:

2 days had gone by and luckily we had a lot of lessons and then finally we were going to be going out in the rain for awhile and we had to find her raincoat, and it was NO WHERE to be found. Well we then realized we hadn’t prayed about it (I know, one of those cliche stories). So we prayed and still nothing. We were convinced that someone else who probably needed more had taken it. Then on Saturday night during the ward party we walked passed the Library in the Church only to find her coat, I have never heard so much happiness in a scream, prayers were answered this week people!

This week Sister Orr and I had an investigator message us about Salvation, and if we considered ourselves to be saved, on Facebook. Well after reading a talk from Elder Oaks in the April 1998 conference we found out there are 6 different definitions for salvation. So if any of you are interested you should check it out! But mine and Sister Orrs question was answered while we were at Zone Conference when President Cropper in the Mission Presidency got up and said, “Are you saved? Have you ever been asked that before?” Thank goodness for yet another answer to our prayer!

This week we were serving a lot of the missionaries in our zone because a lot of them were going through some stressful things. When we finally started getting to work we got a call from a Less Active that we visited the first week that Sister Orr was here! Well she was telling us that her grandson asked his mom if he could be baptized and she said that he could! Wow, blessings on blessings. This boys name is Evin and he has decided for his date to be December 31st! He is a young boy so we are excited to be able to teach him and get him involved in scouting. Seriously, so many blessings this week!

We had Zone Conference this week in Roseburg, I LOVE ROSEBURG. It was so good to be back in my stomping grounds, and when I thought about it I realized that it was a year ago to the day that I was there that I left! Time goes by so quickly! The meeting was spectacular! They taught us about the Online Proselyting changes that are happening in our mission, we talked about the Book of Mormon, increasing our service this holiday season and we even talked about keys to conversion. It was a wonderful meeting and I got to see some familiar faces during lunch and we stopped by and saw Sister Harker after the meeting, it was a wonderful day to be in Roseburg (:

I went on exchanges this week with Sister McArthur who is currently serving in Brookings! We had such a good time and we taught an amazing lesson to this lady Barbara. We found Barbara the week before so it was a first lesson with her. As we were getting to know her and her background a little bit we found out that her husband has been baptized in our church and that he hasn’t been to church in a long time. So then when he came in the room we were able to get his information as well! Super cool. Well we taught Barbara the Restoration and she had already read a big part of the Book of Mormon. We were able to have a good talk and at the end we were asking her how she has received answers to her prayers before and she started to get emotional. She then told us the feelings that she had. We asked her if she felt that now and she said yes! Wow it was awesome, we are supposed to meet with her again this week and hopefully we can get her husband involved as well.

We had a ward party this week, and it was entitled the Chili Chocolate Cook-off, I really thought it was going to be Chili and Chocolate together. I was really happy to get there and find they were separate, EXCEPT some people put them together. So next time you want to be adventurous try to combine Chili and Chocolate!

This week in my studies I found this sentence that really stood out to me, “Humility comes through realizing our dependence upon the Lord.” After I read that statement I was reading in Mosiah 4:19-20, it says:
For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have....
he has poured out his Spirit upon you, and has caused that your hearts should be filled with joy...”
Humility is one thing that I have realized that I really struggle with, I am a pretty prideful person. But reading this makes we realize how much I have to rely on my Savior. I am so grateful for all that He has done for me and that I have the opportunity to lean on him to receive help and strength. So when you feel as if you are having a hard time being humble, remember that without God you are nothing. Because really, you are.

Thanks for the love and support from everyone this week! I am grateful for all of you and I seriously, I know I say this every week, but I love being a missionary! I hope you all have a great week this week! WORK HARD!

— Remember who you are and who God EXPECTS you to become—

PS Next week is transfers soooo if you do email me please email me the night before!! LOVE YOU!
