Hey
lovely fan club! It has been a great week here in the Klamath Falls
area of Oregon! We are continuing to work hard and to find more people
to teach. I feel like I don't have a lot to write about since I just
Skyped home yesterday... and had Pday on Wednesday. But we will write and see what comes to mind!
Skyping
home was a lot of fun. It was good to see everyone on Mothers Day.
After a lot of technical difficulties we finally were able to both see
and hear each other, lol. I thought at first that about 20 minutes with
each part of my family was NOT going to be enough time. But then it just
seemed like the perfect amount. Especially after we had dinner with a
family last night and she told us that when her son was on his mission
that they only got 3 minutes per family member, she said that only gave
him 18 minutes to talk! So suddenly I am very grateful for the time that
we were able to talk, even if it seemed short!
Last
Wednesday as a Zone for Pday we were able to play some ultimate
Frisbee. It was a lot of fun, Sister Roach and I went even though we
didn't really want to. But it ended up being a blast. Although, no one
really thought about putting sunscreen on. So for the rest of the week
the zone resembled Lobsters. And no one really drank a lot of water, so
we also we were all exhausted and had headaches. Mistakes were made and
we are all going to learn from those mistakes next week when we go to
the Lava Beds.
When
we were at correlation this week with Brother Teeples he was telling us
about how much the ward appreciated the work that we are doing. Every
week we have been going out with members to try and contact Less Active
members. And every time we make contact with these people they have been
counting it as Visiting or Home Teaching. Well our ward on a good month
usually gets like 30% of their home teaching done. The month of April
they were able to read a little above 50%! I thought that was great, I
am not sure why we are the ones that have to help them reach that point,
but I am glad that we are making a difference and helping to strengthen
the ward in which we serve.
The
other day while Sister Roach and I were tracting we accidentally
tracted into a Less Actives house. She opened the door then walked away,
which we thought was weird, apparently she was spraying her dogs so
they wouldn't attack us. But eventually she let us in, and us coming by
was an answer to her prayer. Her son has some disabilities so it makes
it very difficult for them to come to church. But she had been having a
rough day and when we knocked on the door she knew it was an answer. We
told her a short message and left. But it just showed me that God truly
knows us personally and it willing to answer any questions or concerns
that we may have. We just have to have Faith.
In
Oregon, there are a lot of dogs and cats. So much to a point where it
makes me think that I never want to own a dog ever in my life. It is
kind of sad, but you know after you have been chased by 4 dogs in one
day, you are kind of done. But the other day we had something cool
happen! We were walking up to a house and suddenly 2 little kittens
popped out of NO where! It was amazing. Usually we just see full grown
dogs and cats, but you know, if puppies and kittens start chasing us, I
wouldn't be mad.
We
were able to do quite a bit of tracting this week to be able to find
new investigators. And there was only one interesting experience that we
had really. Luckily most people are kind and just say they aren't
interested. Well the other day this guy told us that our views and our
beliefs were different then his. And whenever people say that I just ask
them what they believe. Well he started to explain to me Darwinism and
how things were created. It was interesting, until he got to the point
where we started to talk about how Jesus was just a normal guy with good
morals. Then Sister Roach and I just looked at each other and thought
"man this guy needs the gospel." But alias he was not interested, maybe
one day his seed will grow.
We
had a return appointment with this awesome person that we met this last
week. She grew up in a foster family who was LDS and actually went to
church quite a bit with them when she was growing up, then when she was
living in Portland she lived next door to some Elders and she would
always talk to them. Basically she is GOLDEN. I was sorta nervous to go
back because I was pretty sure she was YSA age, and that we would have
to give her to the YSA missionaries. But we went and she started to talk
about how she forgot about the appointment, that her pregnant brain
gets the best of her sometimes. BECAUSE SHE IS PREGNANT SHE IS NOT YSA.
Miracle. We rescheduled for this week and she is excited to meet with
us!
We are struggling a little bit with our people on date, so if you could all pray for John and Tyanne, that would be FABULOUS!
Something
so amazing happened last night, so after we called home and went to
dinner, we only had about an hour to do some tracting/contacting. We
didn't find much success and so I was a little disappointed. BUT then as
we were pulling into our we got a call from some Elders in our Zone who
had a referral for us! They have a person on date, a little girl, and
currently they are teaching the whole family and the family is going to
be moving into our Ward! Epic! So the little girl is on date, and we
will be working with the mom and dad. It will be awesome. THEN as we
were about to get into bed we got a call from the Spanish Elders in the
zone and they had a referral for us! It is a girl and her fiancΓ© who is
trying to find a church in the area to go to! Again, EPIC! We will be
meeting with them tonight.
Well
fan club, the only other news for the week is that Sister Roach and I
will be on foot all week. So please pray for us, lol. Some sisters in
the zone, who live like 2 hours east from us, hit a deer about a month
ago. So they currently have our car, and we took their car to the shop
this morning. I am telling you one thing, if my calves do not look good
after this week, I think that there will be no hope for them!
This
morning we had a conference call with President Russell, and he brought
up an interesting question that I want all of you to think about for
yourself. He asked the missionaries of our mission to write down on a
piece of paper approximately how much time during a weeks period of time
that we spend thinking about the Savior. Not how long you go out and
talk about the Savior, not how long you read about him, but honestly how
much time you sit and just think about him. I thought this was an
interesting question because I think a lot of us, even us as
missionaries, can find that our number is lower then we expect, if we
are being honest with ourselves. While I was taking into consideration I
thought of the scripture 2 Nephi 25:26 which reads, "26 And we talk of
Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of
Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may
know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
I
want you to invite you this week to think more about your Savior, he
has done so much for us and he continues to do so much for us. We
believe in the living Christ, the one who can help us through all of our
trials and heartache. I know that as we strive to remember the Savior
more through out our daily lives that we will be able to find more
happiness and joy!
Well
fan club, thanks for reading yet another update in the life of Sister
Harrison. I hope that you all have a great week and that you WORK HARD!
And don't forget next week that my Pday will be on Tuesday, but I won't
have hardly any time to respond. But I would love to hear from you. HAVE
A GREAT WEEK!
---Remember who you are and who God EXPECTS you to become---
Love, Your Favorite Sister Missionary,
Sister Harrison
This is just the normal ice cream selfie from the week, this next week we wont have a car, so no ice cream. We will have to survive! |
Cute Sister Roach and I ❤️ |
I curled Sister Roaches Hair for her talk yesterday in church, she really appreciated it. |
There was a pretty river and the sun was just right, so we took a picture (: |
In sacrament meeting they gave us flowers and chocolate bars, so nice. Gotta love Mothers Day! |
