Oh
my goodness fan club, this has probably been the best week yet in
Klamath Falls! We have been so busy and working so hard that we have
seen so many miracles!! Heavenly Father is truly willing to give us so
many miracles if we just go to work!
We
started teaching a lady named Barbara last week. She is currently
living at a rehabilitation place because she has had some health things
happen in the past. She was a referral from a member who happened to be
her roommate. Barbara hasn't been feeling herself lately because of all
of the different changes happening in her life since the health problems
and so her son (who isn't a member I might add) told her that she
should try and sit down with the missionaries! He grandson is a member
of a branch here in the stake and he has seen a lot of happiness since
he has joined the church and his dad has noticed that. So Barbara
actually requested the missionaries!! So awesome. She has so much faith
and she is so wiling to listen to us. And we invited her to be baptized
and she accepted the date of May 27th!!
We don't know if physically if she will be ready by that date, because
currently she is in a wheelchair. But spiritually I think that she will
be so so so ready!
This
week we had a lesson with this man named Berry, Berry is a Buddhist.
And it was such an interesting conversation that we had with him. His
brother and mother were actually members of the church, but he decided
to take his fathers view on things and has decided that he likes the
buddhist way of thinking, although he told us flat out that he is a bad
buddhist. But it is always interesting to see what other people believe
and to try to, just for a second, think how they are thinking. I really
enjoyed the conversation. Until it got to the point where we invited him
to pray about the Book of Mormon, he has read it before but had never
prayed about it. He told us he doesn't pray. And that BROKE my heart. To
think that there are people out there who don't pray and don't receive
that guidance is crazy. We taught him how to pray and he said he would
try, so we will see if he does it this week!
We
had a fun night with some members this week with going on splits. We
were able to go with Sister Burton and Sister Mencl. I was with Sister
Mencl and we had a list of 10 people and we made contact with almost
every one of those people! We also made contact with every one of these
peoples dogs!! Ahhh! We were seriously attacked at every door. It must
have been the neighborhood that we were in because it was seriously
terrible! I felt so bad. Her first time out with us and she experienced
that. But it was fun. We were able to go get ice cream at the end and
that made it all better!!
Oh
what do you do in the Summer time.... you WALK. Luckily the weather has
been SUPER nice and I have been able to work on my shoe tan line!
Seriously Sister Roach and I have done so much walking this last week
and a lot of tracting... So I know what you are all waiting for. My
tracting experiences from the week. #1 This is the conversation we had
with a man named Cameron... Us: Do you have faith in Jesus Christ? Him:
Sort of. Us: What do you mean by that? Him: I believe there is a man
upstairs with a sick sense of humor. Us: Ohhhh.... #2 BAD BASHING
EXPERIENCE. This old man answers the door and says they aren't
interested... okay we walk away and his wife comes out side. One thing I
have learned, I always thought it would be the husbands that fight
back, nope its the wives. She comes out and tells us how she went to
Utah and while she was there she saw the MoTab and thought she was
signing a paper to get some free music from them... nope she signed a
referral paper and missionaries were at her door immediately. She wasn't
happy and immediately began to tell us that her church had all the
authority... all we could do was we respect your beliefs and walk away.
BUT SHE WOULDN'T LET US WALK AWAY. We were there for like 15 minutes. #3
We decided to walk to a potential investigators house, and it ended up
being further then expected. We walked almost a mile, in the sketchy
part of our area, even walked by some, probably drunk people having a
huge bonfire.... And he wasn't even home. So we decided to just knock
two more doors because it was already 8:30,
first door no answer, second door, answer and she wants us to come
back!! Her name is Tamara and she is a single mom. Heavenly Father is
truly blessing us in Klamath Falls!
One
reason why I think we were blessed so much this week is because we had a
mission wide fast. Last Monday we woke up and then had a phone call
from the Zone Leaders saying President Russell had a special conference
call happening at 6:40 am.
We got on and President announced a Mission Wide Fast for success. And
it was truly an awesome experience. Kind of hard because us and the Zone
Leaders had just fasted on Sunday for the Zone to find success. But man
it was so worth it! When we ended the fast as a mission President
Russell told us how when he came to the mission they were averaging 100
ish new investigators a week as a mission. Last week our mission found
over 400 new investigators! The Lord is truly moving is work forward!
Sister
Roach and I have the pleasure of going on exchanges with the Sisters in
our zone once a transfer for 24 hours. Here we just check and make sure
everything is in line with the way they should be and to try and train
them in whatever way we can. I was able to go with Sister Allen this
week and I just love love love her. Seriously we are best buds for life.
We were able to do some really great work. We had a lesson with a lady
named Kathi, who we have been teaching for awhile. Kathi's biggest
obstacle is that her mother will disown her if she joins the church. So
she said that she is waiting for her mom to die. Well Sister Allen and I
just took the lesson by the horns. Kathi told us that she had read
quite a bit of the Book of Mormon since our last visit. She read 2 Nephi
31 and all of the verses that she liked the most were about baptism, so
we played on that and ended up inviting her to be baptized. She said
that she couldn't. Most people would say, man thats sad or, that was a
waste of time. But to us it is more then that. It shows us that she
really isn't prepared at this time and that we need to move forward and
find more people who are. It is a good thing. So we have a lesson with
her this week and we will probably be dropping her. On the other hand
Sister Roach and Sister Francis were able to go and have a lesson with
John & Tyanne. Tyanne is on date for baptism on June 3rd
and so their goal was to put John on date too. And they did! John
literally said, "I know that God sent your sisters to us." They are so
awesome! And just a month ago John was saying that he wouldn't even
become a Mormon. But now, he says that we have changed his whole
perspectives on Mormons and says that he will pray to know that the Book
of Mormon is true. We go see them tonight, I love them so much. They
call Sister Roach, just Roach and they call me Sister Bailey (because of
my Facebook), so I guess every one can just call me Sister Bailey!
This
week Sister Roach and I set ourselves some pretty lofty goals. We
planned on having 25 lessons this week, and finding 15 new
investigators. By Friday we had only found 2 new investigators. But
being some of the leaders of the Zone we knew that we had to work hard
to accomplish our goals. So we did and it was accomplished!!! We found
15 new this week and had 25 lessons! Blessings of being diligent and
obedient right there!
Just
for your own information, the next couple of weeks, basically the rest
of the transfer, we are going to have some weird Pdays, so if you want
to email me you should probably get out your Calendar and write this one
down! So today is obviously normal, but for the rest of the transfers
Pdays will be on May 10th (Wednesday), May 15th (Monday), May 23rd (Tuesday, and that day we will be going to the Lava Beds as a zone, woohoo!), May 29th (Monday, Memorial Day) and then June 5th (Monday, which will be Transfer Day)! I hope that all makes sense
But, just to be safe, you should all just email me on MONDAYS. Lol, you just might not hear from me that day....
Last
night we had sort of a panic because we found out that the stake center
in the area (where we normally email) was getting new carpeting and
would be closed all week..... and the other church building in the areas
wifi was down. So last night we were trying to find a place today where
we could email.... So guess where we are today...
THE LIBRARY! It is a fun adventure lol!
This week I have been having a lot of different thoughts about the Book of Mormon, in 1 Nephi 13:40 & 41, we read what the Book of Mormon is:
40
And the angel spake unto me, saying: These last records, which thou
hast seen among the Gentiles, shall establish the truth of the first,
which are of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, and shall make known the plain and precious things which have been taken away from them; and shall
make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God
is the Son of the Eternal Father, and the Savior of the world; and that all men must come unto him, or they cannot be saved.
41 And they must come according to the words which shall be established by the mouth of the Lamb; and the words of the Lamb shall be made known in the records of thy seed, as well as in the records of the twelve apostles of the Lamb; wherefore they both shall be established in one; for there is one God and one Shepherd over all the earth.
The
Book of Mormon is a book that gives us those Plan and precious truths
that we have lost in times before back. It is evidence that Heavenly
Father still loves his children. Joseph Smith said of the Book, "the
Book of Mormon is the most correct book on earth and the keystone of our
religion..." it is the keystone of our religion in Christ, doctrine and
testimony. The Book of Mormon brings together the world that was once
lost and can now give us all hope. I have a very strong testimony of the
Book of Mormon. I know it is true. Every time I read it I can feel the
spirit testify to me that it is true. I want to invite anyone who is
reading this email today who might be questioning to "look to the Book"
and in turn you will "look to the Lord". (Gary E Stevenson, October
2016)
I
am so grateful for every ones love and support while I am on my
mission. It isn't easy, but I can tell you that it is SO worth it. These
18 months are going to affect the rest of my life and I just want to
soak all of it in. I hope you all have a fabulous week and that you WORK
HARD!!! Love you
