Baptism, Jack Mormons & DUMPLINGS

9/25/2017

Another week has come and gone folks! I feel like I can not even keep track anymore about what happens during the weeks, they just fly by so quickly. But I know that we did see many many miracles this past week, because as we work hard we know the Lord is going to bless us! I am loving my area here in North Bend, Oregon! The weather are great and I feel like everyday we are meeting more and more people who are willing to listen and come closer to Jesus Christ!

Okay so the biggest miracle that we had this week was that we put someone on date for BAPTISM! And she was a real miracle. The Elders last Monday night told us that they found someone that they thought we would be better suited to teach and they scheduled an appointment for her the next day to meet us at the church. Well it had been a rough morning, we had met with someone who had been meeting with the missionaries in the past and they dropped us, said that they didn't want to meet with us anymore. We were pretty discouraged but put on our happy faces and went to the lesson that the Elders had set up for us, and we met Lindsey. She is 19 years old and just graduated from High School this year. She is attending the Community College here in town that starts classes this week. We started talking to her and getting to know her, she told us that she had never really had the opportunity to go to a church before. She went with some friends going up for herself never really had a church. As we continued to talk we said something to the affect of, "As you continue to meet with us and come closer to Jesus Christ you will have the desire to follow his example and be baptized." She then asked what she needed to do to get baptized, the spirit was so strong and for the next hour we talked about what she needed to do to be baptized! She is on date for October 28th! Super amazing experience. As we talked to her she has already read the Introduction to the Book of Mormon and the section with the witnesses, and said the other time she just kept thinking, "wow, this must be true!" Seriously, she was a blessing sent to us from Heavenly Father. We told the Elders that we know the way to missionary work in this area now, they go find, and we will teach haha! But really we are so grateful for Lindsey!

We went on exchanges this week with some sisters in the Zone, it was so much fun. I went with a sister who is just finishing her training this transfer, and it is so fun to be out with the ones who are still greenies! I learn so much from them. Funny experience with her while we were tracting we knocked on a door and a lady answered and said, "Oh girls we are Jack Mormons in this house!" We started talking to her and apparently her family line is through Lorenzo Snow, her mom and her grandma are members of the church but then it stopped with her mom. She said that she really loves the church but just never had an opportunity to join it! Super cool! So we kept talking with her and asked if we could come back, she then said no. WHAT THE. She said that she is more a spiritual person and not so much a religious person. But we kept talking and asked if she would be interested in coming to our Trunk or Treat coming up, trying to invite her to a more social gathering first, and she said yes! So hopefully we can get her and her kids to come and get to know them better and introduce them to people in the ward!

This week on exchanges Sister Huang, for dinner, taught us sisters how to make Chinese Dumplings, and I would be lying if I told you I only ate 5. Seriously we probably made over 100. SO MANY DUMPLINGS. But they were so good, and then the next day we fried them and made Potstickers. I don't think I could ever go to China, I would come back weighing 100 pounds more, haha!

We had the opportunity this week to go to what they called a Harvest Luncheon. It was put on by the other ward in the area but both wards were invited. It was all about missionary work and so they asked both sets of Sister Missionaries to come and talk about their missions. Apparently in the spring time they had a luncheon about seeds, and planting seeds. So in the fall they were talking about harvesting the seeds that we planted. It was a really fun time because they also had some sisters from the different wards talk about their missions years ago, one lady got up and said that every time she talks about her mission she cries, this will probably be me, you have all been warned. But it was cool to talk about what drives people to share the gospel with others, if you think about it WE ARE SO BLESSED. I AM SO BLESSED. I was raised in a home that taught me gospel principles and helped me become the person I am today. I am blessed to have the gospel in my life and so many people out there don't have that blessing, I think this is why I share the gospel, the reason why I came on the mission. Because I am so blessed that I don't even have an excuse to not do it. And I am grateful for that.

We had a lesson this week with a lady named Candy. Candy a couple of weeks ago was invited to go to the other wards BBQ that they were doing by a member. Well she showed up to the BBQ and apparently the member never showed up! But Candy did and met a bunch of people. She has taken the lessons before and when we met with her two weeks ago she didn't seem too interested but said that we could come back. So we went back this week and were expecting more of a socializing visit and trying to teach the gospel as we talked with her. But then she started asking us questions! Mainly asking what makes us different from other Christian churches! It was so AWESOME! Anyway, we invited her to the Women's Session and she didn't show up... but that was because she ended up having to work! We found out a member in the ward knows her so we are hoping to go over this week and meet with her again!

We had the opportunity to have interviews with President and Sister Orton this week! I don't think I express this enough but I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. Seriously, they are like parents to me and I am grateful to have them. Not much to talk about with the actual interview part, but I just love them a lot and I am very very grateful for them (:

Alright, all of you women out there. I sure hope that you watched the Women's General Session this past weekend and if you didn't THATS OKAY because you can go repent right now and watch it on lds.org, because it is ALREADY THERE! I love conference, aka Missionary Super Bowl. It is just too good. I can say that I received a lot of answers to my prayers during this session of conference and I am very eager for next weekend to come! I loved all of the talks and have so many quotes that I could share with you today but I think this quote from President Uchtdorf is what I am going to share today:
"Choosing the path of discipleship will lead to untold happiness and fulfillment of your divine nature."
He talked about how we can choose our destination and some of the stops along the way. Sometimes trials may come up that we have no control of, but as we continue to choose our final destination and remember our divine nature, we know that we will get there! And I am so grateful for the message because I know that it is going to bring the most happiness!

Sister Huang and I were able to teach Gospel Principles yesterday. It was on Eternal Marriage, she kept looking at me and saying "I don't have an Eternal Family, so I think that you should just teach this!" And I had not even thought about that once when we were asked to talk and then I felt so bad! But the awesome thing about Sister Huang is that she is so excited about the future. As she got up and shared her conversion story to the class and expressed that she doesn't have an eternal family now, but that she is so excited for one in the future, the spirit was felt. I was grateful for her courage in getting up and sharing her strong testimony! And I am grateful to have the knowledge that my family is eternal and that as I continue to do all that I can here to keep the commandments and the promises that I have made with Heavenly Father, that I can live with them FOREVER!

Thanks for tuning into another special with Sister Harrison and Sister Huang! I hope you were able to see all of the miracles that we are having here in Oregon, I am grateful for all of you and for your love, prayers and support. I hope that you have a great week this week and that you remember how blessed you really are! Love ya!

Love, Your Favorite Sister Missionary,

Sister Harrison ❤️

LESSSSS GOOOOOO!!!

9/18/2017

Hello Fan Club! It's been another beautiful week here on the Oregon Coast and the rain has started, I repeat the rain has started. So who knows the next time that we are going to see the sun, gotta love Oregon! This has been SUCH a good week. I feel like so many things happened and I don't know if I can get all the details but we will for sure try. We are doing a big Zone Pday activity today so hopefully we can get this out so everyone can know about my adventures! Here we go!

This week was a Finding Week for our district here in Coos Bay! For the last 2 weeks we have led the mission with our finding numbers, so our district leader said if we could do it again that he would buy us doughnuts, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! As a District this week we found 31 new investigators- this is not a drill people! Coos Bay is on fire! Not literally because we have rain now, but seriously, people are so prepared here!

So a terrifying experience with one of the people we found this week. Sister Huang and I were tracting an apartment complex, we talked to this man.... I cant remember his name because he wasn't interested.... but anyway we were walking around the corner to knock another door and hear the door to the apartment that we just knocked open and heard someone walking our way, suddenly a man is yelling at us, while we have our backs turned to him saying, "Hey stop it right there!" He sounded like a cop from a movie or something, not kidding I was freaking out on the inside. I turned around and there is a guy standing there with a coffee cup in one hand and the other hand pointing at us and he asked, "Are you Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses?" I didn't know what he wanted to hear haha so I shyly said Mormons... suddenly he gets super friendly and is laughing "hahaha I gotcha didn't I?" Uh yeah... you did ha... ha. Apparently his name is Arnold, and he has met with missionaries before! Arnold builds bikes and so he would always fix up the Elders bikes and they would talk. They showed him a lot of Mormon Messages and asked us where he could watch more of them. He became a new investigator as we talked and really has some great potential! It was funny because he brought up how he doesn't understand why more churches don't help in the community, (although I feel like most churches do a lot of community service and such) we were able to talk about how the church has been helping so much with natural disasters and how we just last week went to Coquille and helped with a service day. He was amazed! We are meeting with him again next week and we are super excited about it!

We had a really busy week this week between meetings, driving, lessons, finding and service. One day this week before 10 am we had exercised, ate breakfast, got ready, studied and did an hour service. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do! And if that means you don't have time to do certain things, that's okay. It's all for the Lord and His work!

We had a really cool opportunity to have 2 meetings this last week with 2 General Authority Seventies, Elder Whiting (and Sister Whiting) and Elder Parrella! Our first meeting was our Missionary Leadership Council. We got to counsel with these men about things that our mission could do better. It was a cool experience. We first talked about the good things, then the weaknesses, but Elder Whiting instead of calling them weaknesses called them opportunities to improve and grow. And then we were able to discuss different doctrines that we could learn that would help our weaknesses. It was a pretty cool experience to be in that kind of environment and to be able to learn from them. Then the other meeting that we went to was a Zone Conference, but not just any Zone Conference, a half mission conference. So we have 5 zones of missionaries in one building, SUPER COOL! We all met down in Medford and had a great meeting, there is so much I could write about that I learned, but it is just too much to put into one email! We had a question and answer section with them where we could ask any questions that we had, that was pretty cool. But I also think that it was amazing to feel the love that they had for us. And to know that love wasn't just from them, but it was for the Prophet and his counselors as well, and ultimately, Heavenly Father. They talked about ways we could improve as a mission and gave us tips and guidelines, there is so much to learn and so much to do! You think that you might finally be getting it write, then you go to these meetings and realize you still have a lot to learn, so goes life! Haha! But it was an amazing experience to get to know and learn from these men, and they are so funny! At one point an Elder was talking about how we as a mission are really good at adapting to different cultures and circumstances, but t was trying to say it in a nice way and Elder Whiting said, "Alright, just say it, OREGON IS WEIRD!" We all agreed haha. But you will all get the opportunity to learn from one of these men as well! Elder Parrella is speaking in the Sunday Afternoon session of General Conference! So watch out for him, then you won't have to take my word for it!

I told you all about Vanessa last email, well we hit some major speed bumps along the path toward baptism and we had to take her off date for the time being... but do not fear! We are still meeting with her and she still has that desire to enter into the waters. She notices the happiness that she has gained since meeting with us and I know that will continue happening as she learns more about the restored gospel. Speed bumps are pretty normal along the pathway of life so we know that she will make it through! So next week hopefully we will be able to meet more people how are ready to come closer to Christ through baptism!

This week Sister Huang and I were teaching a lot of commandments. I love to share the scripture Mosiah 2:41 when teaching any Commandments, it says:

"41 And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it."

There are a few parts that I love in this scripture, but my all time favorite is the never-ending happiness that we are going to feel when we return to Gods presence & if we have obeyed these commandments! Can you even imagine what never-ending happiness feels like? I can't, but I know that it is promised that if I do follow the commandments here on the Earth that someday I will find out! I invite everyone to recognize the happiness that they feel right now in your life because you are keeping the commandments of God, we aren't perfect, but I know you all feel even a toy bit of those blessings!

Thanks for tuning into another Weekly Email from Sister Harrison! I'm grateful for all of your love, support and prayers! I love you all and I hope you Work Hard and have a Fabulous Week!!

---Remember who you are and who God EXPECTS you to Become---

Love, Your Favorite Sister Missionary,

Just Keep on Keeping on!

September 11, 2017

Hey Fan Club! It has been another crazy busy week here in the field! Literally Sister Huang and I keep saying to each other "We have not had a minute to catch our breathes!" Or so it seems anyway haha. Everyday this week came with another adventure and more miracles then I could've imagined. I am grateful that I was able to see Gods hand in our work this week! Also, to those of you just joining my weekly email, welcome! I finally put together my weekly email list, let me know if you would like to stay on or not, I will not be offended if you ask to be taken off! So if you haven't heard from me in over a year, it is because I have been very late in the bandwagon getting a list together, I am alive and doing fantastic in the land of Oregon!

On Monday we went on a really cool hike here in a near by area. It is called Gold and Silver Falls, although I think I am going to need to come back another time and experience it again because most of what I saw on Monday was smoke and trees haha but the falls were still beautiful. A family from the Coos Bay ward took us up there then took us to their cabin that they have up there as well and we had the opportunity to eat lunch with them. As they were talking they mentioned their daughter is serving a mission in Argentina, I believe, and they show us pictures! Low and behold I recognized their daughter, she was in my YSA ward in Ogden! This is seriously such a small world, especially in the church! Shout out to the amazing Mathias family for giving us a fun Pday last week!

This week Sister Huang and I got a new car, super epic. But we had to drive all the way to Eugene for this new car, wait and then come home. Altogether it took 9 hours, it was NUTS! We just hung out in the mission office while we waited, we were going to go and do work on campus or something but the air was so bad in Eugene they had it so no missionaries were even allowed to leave their apartments unless they were going to a lesson. So we just helped out where we could. We are now driving a nice Red Toyota Corolla. I thought red was going to be so awesome, but apparently it shows water spots more then the normal car haha, oops! It was fun while it lasted. But on the way home we talked about how we hadn't been able to do any work in our area and how we just needed to get to work. Right as we were pulling into town we got a call from a less active in the area who wants to get her kiddos involved in the youth program and that she wanted to sit and talk to us! WOW! Blessings upon Blessings!

I was able to go on 2 exchanges this week with Sisters in the Zone. It was a lot of fun and we saw many miracles as we went out and talked to people in our area. One of the sisters has been struggling with homesickness so it was nice getting to know her more and being able to find a way that me and my companion can help her as she is striving to get over this trial. We read the talk The First Great Commandment together by Elder Holland, I am pretty sure I have written about this talk in my weekly emails before but I again invite all of you to read it. So good. When we realize we are serving others because we love the Savior I know that it helps and that it gives us strength. I am grateful I have the opportunity to go out with these Sisters, I really think that I learn more from them then they will ever learn from me!

This week in our area Sister Huang and I were able to find 8 NEW INVESTIGATORS! All through tracting efforts. It is really funny to see the different people behind all the doors that we knocked on, but we were happy to be able to see the miracles that came from tracting this week!

We had an AMAZING lesson with Vanessa this week. For those of you who are just barely tuning into the weekly updates of Sister Harrison, Vanessa is one of our investigators right now who is really trying to find help. Things aren't going right for her in any shape or form at this point and she is just trying to find something that can give her a good foundation. One of her friends is a member of the church and introduced us. Well this week we had our first real lesson with her. We brought our relief society president and she is amazing might I add. Vanessa has a 3 year old son who is literally all over the place, and Sister Blackwell was able to contain him long enough for us to teach her the restoration. The spirit was so strong and when we asked her who Jesus Christ was to her she told us that he is her Savior, that she knows that he is there and that he loves her. And that she knew that He sent us to her. Man. This lady though. We finished teaching her and invited her to read the Book of Mormon, and then felt prompted to also invite her to be baptized October 21st! And she accepted! WOO HOO! She knows this is the foundation she needs and is even talking about moving up her date, miracles upon miracles people!

This week I taught Sister Huang the art of knock knock jokes. I tried to think of a good one... but the mission veil is a real thing and I could not think of any jokes, so please send me some! I did the banana 🍌 and orange 🍊 one haha but she didn't really understand! Then she thought she was getting the hang of it so she made her own:
Sister Huang: Knock knock
Sister Harrison: Whose there?
Sister Huang: Sister Huang
Sister Harrison: Sister Huang who?
Sister Huang: Missionary!
Haha, we have some work to do!

We had a really cool opportunity this week to take part in Make a Difference Day this week in the Coos Bay Stake. Every year they chose one ward in the stake and that ward works with the community and plans a service day for the whole stake to come and take part in. On Saturday we got to go and help in the City of Coquille. They had a lot of different projects planned like painting and sewing, but what did the missionaries get in charge of? Moving branches and trees haha. Of course. But you know when you want a job done, call the missionaries. We were able to have all 20 missionaries, including our senior couple, out helping this community. And let me tell you, all of us were feeling it the next day! We made probably 8 huge burn piles for the city to burn! They would come and cut down a tree and cut it into pieces, then we would come in and move it. By the end I think we all wanted a nap and a shower! Then we were able to have a lunch that was provided. I love being able to go and do service for the communities in which we are serving in, makes you just feel too good!

In church yesterday a Sister gave a talk on the talk entitled "Trust in the Lord and Lean Not" by Sister Cordon this last April Conference. It all goes along with one of my favorite scriptures, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” She then talked about how in the English language when we talk about leaning it usually means that we physically move towards one side. So in a way we are off center, but when we are off center in a spiritual sense that means that we are leaning away from the Savior. In our lives we need to strive to be centered spiritually, to rely on the Savior and not lean away from him spiritually. I know that as we trust in him and lean not in our own understanding that he will direct our paths. I am so grateful for this scripture and this talk. Go read it for yourself!

This next week in the OEM we are going to be having a visiting 70 here, and we are all pretty excited about that. So I am sure I will have a lot to talk about next week because Sister Huang and I get to go to 2 meetings with him, EPIC! But thanks for tuning in to another Sister Harrison Special! I am grateful for all of you and hope that you have a great and safe week! Love ya!

Miracles UPON Miracles

September 4, 2017

Good morning dear Fan Club, I found out last night that a bunch of missionaries planned a zone activity to go on a hike and stuff and that we are going to be gone all day. So this weekly email is going to be shorter then normal probably but I hope it gets its point across! Miracles upon Miracles.

OUR MISSION IS STILL ON FIRE. Apparently the air quality was so bad in Medford the air was considered to be toxic and so they had all of the missionaries go in for the night. They are having us use our best judgements in our areas to determine what is workable, the air quality is bad here but I don't think it is that bad, SO the work goes on! Literally all anyone is talking to us about these days on the door step or in lessons is the fires in Oregon and the Hurricane in Texas, so prayers for everywhere right now!

We have been seeing SO many miracles this week on the coast, lets start with Monday night shall we? We had a dinner with our missionary mom in our area, Sister Hemsley. She has been gone for like the whole last transfer basically and so we had a lot of catching up to do, and after dinner she was tired and asked us to take some boxes to a less active for her. She says that it was mostly because she was tired, but I believe that it was the SPIRIT. So we went to drop off the boxes and chatted with the less active for a minute and then her friend came out, her friends name is Vanessa. We start introducing ourselves to Vanessa and the less active says "oh yeah! Ness these are the people I keep telling you that you need to talk to!" Uh what? So we start talking and find out that she is going through a lot of hard trials right now and that she is really trying to build a foundation with religion and that all of the churches that she has been to haven't been right for her. And then she asked us when we could meet with her, uh right now? Haha. So we scheduled a time for the next day and we went to what was called the Pottery Co... now we are in Oregon people and when she asked us to meet her there I really thought it was a dispensary. Don't worry it was a color me mine store basically, we had a member look it up then go with us. We had a good first conversation with her and got to know a lot of her beliefs and then she said she would be at church on Sunday. But this isn't even the miracle people! So at the pottery place she had a friend with her and we talked to her and found out that her husband is a less active in the Coos Bay ward. So we got his name and we were going to have the Coos Bay Sisters stop by. Well that night we got a call from the Coos Bay Sisters, this was BEFORE we even told them about Vanessa. They call saying WE JUST MET VANESSA! Uh what are you talking about? Apparently they were walking down the street going to go contact someone and they felt really prompted to knock on a door and went back to knock on it. It was the less actives house and Vanessa was there. Basically after that experience Vanessa knew that God was watching out for her. She has been through a lot of trials in her life that make her think that God doesn't love her and that she is unwanted. But over the last couple of days and watching these things happen she is beginning to see the full picture. She came to church yesterday and loved every second of it. She has a very energetic 4 year old and we even got him to sit during sacrament meeting. I am always a little hesitant to bring investigators to church the first time on Fast and Testimony meeting, but this was perfect. Literally the whole meeting was all about how the gospel blesses families. This was a HUGE miracle this week. North Bend is soon to be on FIRE. Not literally though.

One night this week, after tracting basically all day and having no luck, Sister Huang and I were just ready to go to bed and get some rest when we got a phone call from an unknown number. We answered and it was a member from the Coos Bay ward, Sister Jerns. She is probably the best member missionary that I have ever met. She starts telling us about how she has like 5 referrals for us to go see with her. So we scheduled a time to go out with her and it was such a good experience. We when and met with this lady named Candy, Candy was invited to the Coos Bay Ward BBQ by some members, well then the members didn't show up. So she met Sister Jerns and they hit it off. Well Candy has taken the lessons before and when we showed up to her house she was not interested in talking to us and just talked to Sister Jerns. But for some reason at the end she started talking to us, thanks Spirit, and we started talking about Who God is to her. We got in a really good conversation and suddenly she was inviting us to come back! WOW! MIRACLES. So cool. Sister Jerns is going to be coming out with us again next week to go contact more of these people, good things to come for sure!

We started teaching a little girl named Addyson. Her mom is a less active and really doesn't want anything to do with the church, but she decided if it is something that Addyson wants to do that she will support her. Addyson is probably the smartest 9 year old that you will ever meet. I asked her what she knew about the Book of Mormon and she basically recited the whole first book. Really she knows a lot. We taught her about how God loves us all so much that he gave us so many blessings. She started naming blessings like the earth, the air, food, the couch, etc. And then I said, and isn't the Book of Mormon a blessing too? She agreed right away. We read the introduction together and then talked about the promise. This 9 year old has already prayed about the Book of Mormon and has found out for herself that it is true. She is so great. Now if we can get her parents on board that would be even better. Her dad isn't a member and we hope to invite him to sit in on the lesson next time. Miracles are just around the corner I can feel it!

Another smaller miracle, Sister Huang and I had a goal to find 1 investigator yesterday and we had been tracting and had no luck. We had a meeting at 7:30 at the church so we decided to contact a former investigator across the street really quick, it was like 7:15. We knocked on the door and Arika answered and let us in immediately. She said "we connected instantly!" Apparently she didn't like the last sisters who stopped by, but as we talked about her background and such she wanted us to come back! #4thstreetlastdoor #sundaynightmiracle

So you probably want to know more about my companion, because she is awesome! Okay, so Fan Club, my companion has the coolest conversion story and she gave me permission to write about it in my weekly email. So Sister Huang is from China. She is from a very small village, everyone in her village is related in fact, they have the last name Huang! Cool right? Anyway she grew up not really having a religion so to speak, just believed in the things that her parents taught her. Well when she was old enough she wanted to go to school to be able to earn money for her parents to live a good life, because really they don't have much. They are farmers, and she told me in America farmers are rich, in China they are poor. Well she went off to school and got a degree in Hotel Management and decided to go to Beijing to get a better paying job. While she was there she met a man who became a friend and she could tell there was something different about him. In China you aren't allowed to share your beliefs like you are allowed to here, it is against the law there. So he couldn't just invite her to church but once she asked him what made him different he was able to tell her about his church that he went to. She began investigating that point on. The only problem is because of the laws in China she couldn't take the missionary discussions there because there are no missionaries! So she had to go all the way to Hong Kong to go and receive the lessons, also she had to do this because she was the first member in her family to join. Well she went there and took all of the missionaries lessons in ONE DAY and then was BAPTIZED the very next day. So cool right? And then one year after she was baptized she left on a mission! So really she has only been a member for a couple of years. When she would go to church from her house in the small village she would have to travel 2 days to go to church. In Beijing there were more branches so it wasn't that far. But I think that is crazy since people here complain that the temple is 3 hours away, imagine church being 2 days away! She is still the only member in her family. Her parents told her if that is what she wanted to do that they would support her. But when they found out that she wanted to go on a mission they weren't excited about that didn't want her to go. But Sister Huang prayed about it and specifically prayed for the courage to talk to parents about it more. Eventually they supported her and now she is here serving in the Oregon Eugene Mission! She was in the MTC for 2 months to learn English and honestly is very good at English! She beats herself up about it like any other human, but for only knowing the language for a year, she is doing great!

So on a map this is where Sister Huang is from, I pinned it so then maybe one day I will be able to go find her small village, haha!

This transfer as a zone we have made an over all goal to all become more effective Preach My Gospel Missionaries. In the past we have had a conference call with our Mission President and he tells the District Leaders what they should teach for District Meeting. But this transfer he is turning the reins over to the leadership in the zone. After much prayer and fasting this last week we had decided that what our zone needed, especially because we have so many new missionaries, is to learn how to better use Preach My Gospel in our preparation, finding, teaching and committing. It has been a really cool experience to learn how to work with other leaders over the last week and to really learn how to counsel and come together on ideas, sometimes it didn't go smoothly, but I think in the end it is what Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ want for our Zone and I can already see SO many miracles coming from it!

This week I was studying 1 Nephi 16 when Nephi breaks his bow in the wilderness. As I was reading the trial that Nephi and his family was going through I found this quote by Richard G. Scott:
“Just when all seems to be going right, challenges often come in multiple doses applied simultaneously. When those trials are not consequences of your disobedience, they are evidence that the Lord feels you are prepared to grow more. He therefore gives you experiences that stimulate growth, understanding, and compassion which polish you for your everlasting benefit. To get you from where you are to where He wants you to be requires a lot of stretching, and that generally entails discomfort and pain”
As we read from the experience that Nephi had to go through and see the pain and suffering that he experienced, I know that we can see that in our lives. There are times when we don't understand why we have to go through certain challenges and we feel as though we don't deserve this. But it isn't that we don't deserve it, it is that we earned it. We were able to get to where our Heavenly Father wanted us, so now he is just giving us another mountain to climb. Not so we complain and turn away from him, but so we can finish the hike before us and in the end look at what we have been able to accomplish. I am grateful for all of the hills and mountains that I have had to climb over in my life to get me to where I am today!

Well Fan Club, I hope that you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend that you have fun with whatever you may be doing. Thanks for tuning into yet another week with Sister Harrison, tune in next week for some more GREAT MIRACLES! Love you all, WORK HARD!

This is HAZELS NUTS!!! 🥜

August 28, 2017

Hey Fan Club! Just another email from your favorite Sister Missionary here on the Oregon Coast! Today was transfer day, but I stayed in North Bend for another 6 weeks and I couldn't be more excited about that. I know the Lord has a lot prepared for my companion and I here in Oregon and as we go forward with Faith and Trust I know that we will be able to accomplish many many things!

Speaking of my new companion, her name is Sister Huang! She is from China and has been out on her mission for about a year now. She actually came out in the same group as Sister Heaton but Sister Huang had to go to the MTC for 2 months to learn English so she has been out for a little bit longer then normal. She is a convert to the church, I haven't heard the full story yet but I am excited to get to know her more. Her English is really good compared to what I thought it was going to be like. There have been a few words I had to teach but honestly nothing major! The first thing she asked was if we could go to the beach today, haha. Also we gave her a treat today, we gave her a first washing a car by hand experience. In China they don't have cars, so it was a big deal to even just wash a car by hand today. She is so cute and I cant wait to be able to experience so many new things with her this transfer! This week the departing missionaries were able to give their end testimonies, and it was a really powerful experience. But something really stood out to me and Sister Lunt said something about how her only regret was that she never loved her companions that she hated. I am grateful that I have loved all of my mission companions and I feel like I have a special connection with all of them. So love your companions. ALWAYS.

So it has been a good week here in Oregon. Today we are suffering from a lot of smoke in the air. I am not really sure where the closest fire is but I know that the one in Brookings is the biggest one in the nation right now, so pray for Brookings!

So some craziness happening in the zone this transfer, literally there are going to be 7 brand new missionaries in our zone. Even the Zone Leader is training a BRAND NEW missionary. The mission this transfer has 30 missionaries coming in and we are getting 7 of them in the Coos Bay Zone. It is going to be so much fun working with all of these brand new greenies! And it will be a little crazy during roles plays and New Missionary Training BUT so the adventure goes on. After this transfer 1/3 of our Mission here in the OEM is going to be new missionaries, CRAZY! Basically it is Hazels Nuts! So many miracles in the making here on the coast!

This week Sister Lunt (my companion who just this week went home) was able to go on a departing temple trip with my Mission President and his wife and all the missionaries going home. They went to the Portland temple. So on Tuesday we got to drive up to Eugene and stay the night with some sisters up there and then Sister Lunt and a sister from the other companionship went to the temple the next morning. While Sister Banner and I got to spend the day doing missionary work in her area. It was so much fun. She is a brand new missionary out for 6 weeks and I feel like she was teaching me the entire time. I decided to adopt her as my own and we did some great work. We were able to do a lot of tracting and quite a bit of teaching. Altogether we passed out 5 copies of the Book of Mormon and found 3 new investigators. IT WAS EPIC. This one man at the end, I can not for the life of me remember his name, but his mom is a active member of the church in Idaho and has always tried to share the gospel with him. But he said that he was never in the right place to accept it. Well recently his girlfriend left him with 2 young kids and he is really trying to raise them in a stable home and so he has been trying to come closer to God, and then we knocked on his door. God is preparing so many people everywhere, we just have to be brave enough and work hard enough to go and find them!

A random miracle from this week. Sister Lunt and I were talking about how we should ask in a family in the ward could invite one of our investigators over to dinner sometime so they could help fellowship them. Well on Saturday this family fed us and guess who else was at dinner... out investigator! How does that even happen? Grateful for awesome members!

This week in sacrament meeting the speakers had the opportunity to speak on Charity. Charity is something that I have studied a lot on my mission but the phrase "Perfect love case the out fear" struck a different cord to me then normal. Charity is the pure love of Christ, and Christ is the only perfect person that ever walked this earth. So Charity is that perfect love that we are all striving to have. But when we have that perfect love we will not have fear. I will not be fearful to knock another door, or you may not be fearful to share the gospel with your neighbor who just moved in down the street. We are told to Love One Another as Jesus Loved You. Christ loved everyone and as we strive to gain his perfect love I know that the fears that are in our lives will disappear and that we will be able to grow a stronger and closer connection to many of those people around us!
1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Alright, well you all made it through another weekly email of yours truly. I hope that you all have a great week this coming week and that you WORK HARD! LOVE YOU!

---Remember who you are and who God EXPECTS you to become---

Love, Your Favorite Sister Missionary,

The OEM is on FIRE 🔥, literally.

August 21, 2017

Hey Fan Club! Hope you all are able to read this email and didn't go blind from looking at the eclipse this morning! And if you didn't get to see the eclipse you missed out! It was a once in a life time opportunity! Sister Lunt and I thought that we were watching it through our iPads and then there was a member that let us use their glasses, um no wasn't watching it the way I could have. But all of you people that drove to Idaho or somewhere else are crazy! It did get a little cold here and did get dark. But I thought it was going to be really dark, but none of that today. It was really cool, I am glad that fog could go away for a few minutes this morning so we could watch it (:

image1.PNG

This week I had the opportunity to go on exchanges two times with two different sisters in the zone! It is always so much fun to be able to work with these sisters and to be able to have them teach me so much, most of the time I think they teach me more then I teach them! I went to Sister Peck on Tuesday. She is from West Valley Utah and has been out for a little under a year and right now she is training a brand new missionary. It was fun because we went straight to work and we found so many great potentials and even some new investigators. One of the guys we found, his name is Terry, just moved here from the South. Well this whole week here in the Bay we have been getting a lot of wind (we usually have a lot of wind but this has been more then usual) well, my skirt totally kept trying to fly up while we were on his door step and he made it a joke which was good, but I on the other hand was freaking out the entire time. He has a Christian background and right now is trying to find a church that is a good place for him to make roots. We talked about the Restoration of the Gospel and he asked us to come back! That doesn't happen too often, so we have a return appointment for this week! I am excited to meet with him again!

We had Zone Conference this week here in Coos Bay and the Roseburg Zone came and had it with us. So much fun. The spirit was so strong and we really were edified. I love Zone Conference and the opportunity that we have to learn form our leaders. Sister Lunt and I also taught at this Zone Conference which was a lot of fun. Always stressful and I always get nervous but it turned out really well. We had to talk for 15 minutes about Asking Questions. We ended up having them think about different times in the scriptures that Questions are asked to be able to prove a point or help people learn. It turned into more of a discussion which I really enjoyed. Then we read from Preach My Gospel and did a role play. I was happy with how well it went and President Orton said that we did a good job. So that is good! I really liked learning about companionship unity at Zone Conference. The Assistants that we have right now in the mission are probably the most unified missionaries that I have ever met. And they were able to teach the section and I really enjoyed it. They talked about how we can resolve conflicts and become more one in Christ. This is something that I wished I would have learned at the beginning of the mission but I am grateful to have that information now and for the future as well! Really everything was just so great and the spirit was strong. I am grateful for everyone that had a part in that conference, it was just too good!

We had a lesson with our investigator Mary this week. She is an older woman who has some interesting views on life. Well the Elders had taught her the first discussion already so we went to follow up on things and to teach her the second discussion. Well we start talking about she tells us about the "Joseph Smith Book" and how we shouldn't have a book about him. I was confused about what book she was talking about until she pulled out her Book of Mormon. Then I began to tell her about the Book of Mormon and what it is really about and she was like "Wow, that really makes so much more sense, why wouldn't Christ come to the Americas?" Awesome, so then we started going more into the Restoration to go over what the Elders had taught the time before. Well then she started talking about Why would God come to Joseph Smith and not to the billions of other people that believe in him, and the Bible says that no man can or will ever see God. So basically she told us that she doesn't believe in the first vision. So we opened up to Acts when the apostle Stephan sees God the Father and His Son in a vision before he dies, and we asked her if she believed in that. She said no and that he was probably deceived by the devil. And then she told a long story about her life. But we were able to bring it back and she told us that she didn't have an open heart right now. But she said she would pray for an open heart before we come back next time. Hopefully we will be able to teach her next time and she will be a little more open to our message.

On Friday I was able to go on exchanges with Sister Maddock who serves in the Coos Bay Ward. She has only been out for a couple of transfers so it was a lot of fun to go out with her and see the fire with in her. She is from Plain City, Utah and really loves Oregon so far. Within the first 20 minutes of Sister Maddock and I together we were able to find a young girl named Kaelyn. Kaelyn is 14 but she looks like she is 21, no joke. She has a Hindu background on belief so it was fun to talk to her and begin to understand what she believes. We asked her who she thought God was, she said that she believes there are multiple Gods and that God is within us. Well I began to explain the Godhead and who God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are to us. I think explained that the Holy Ghost is within us to help us be lead and guided. She really liked that. When I asked if she believed in Jesus Christ she said yeah, we believe he was in India teaching the people during the 11 years of unaccounted life that we have of him. So then I brought up the Book of Mormon and how we believe that the Savior loves all of us and that he also came to the Americas to teach the people here. Really it went back and forth like this for awhile and then she asked us to come back to teach her and her mom! We are going tonight, it should be awesome! The rest of the exchange went really well with Sister Maddock and we were able to do a lot of great work together. She is an amazing missionary and I really look up to her!

On Saturday our ward did this fun thing called the Bishops Bash at Bastendorff Beach here in the area. We got to invite a bunch of Less Actives to attend and some Non Members as well. We had a lot of members helping to get people there and we were able to go with one of our investigators, Pippi! It was a lot of fun to be at the beach with her and to play around in the sand and eat some good dinner. She also got in the water and I still call her crazy for that because I was dressed and freezing, so she is nuts! But it was a good activity to get more fellowshipping in the ward!

There is this young girl named Addyson that the sisters were teaching before. Her mom is a less active and hasn't been coming to church but Addyson expressed an interest in getting baptized so her mom had her start taking the missionary discussions. Well her dad isn't a member and a member who works with him told us that there is a lot of potential there and to go and talk to them. Addy has been out of town with her active grandparents for the entire summer so we decided to stop by on Saturday and see if she was home. She was and she really wants to meet with us again. We sat down with her and her mom & dad and talked about it and her dad is all about commitment. He wants Addy to stick to it if that is really something that she wants. So he doesn't want her getting baptized really soon but he wants her to commit. So step #1 she committed to have a lesson with us in 2 weeks when her mom is off of work. I am so excited to sit down and meet with her! She is a cute little girl, and her dad has a lot of potential too so we will invite him to sit down and listen as well. Teaching families is literally the best!

Well Fan Club, my mission is on fire, literally. We got a call from Brookings last night saying that they were leaving Brookings and going to Grants Pass because the air quality was so bad that they couldn't even leave the apartment. Everyone keeps saying there are a lot of fires going on but hearing that Brookings Sisters had to leave makes it a little bit more real for us here in North Bend! We aren't in danger here but please everyone say a good prayer for the firefighters out there and that the winds stay down so they can get control of those fires, it would be greatly appreciated (:

This area is really starting to pick up speed in the Missionary Work and I am excited to see what comes this week in the miracles that we have been experiencing! Now that School is going back into session more people will be able to met more frequently and I really think there is going to be more success in this area of the Lords Vineyard!

This week I was really struggling, you know we all have times that we struggle. But I felt prompted to open my transfer journal (basically it is a glorified missionary yearbook) and I saw that someone put a reference down to a scripture. That scripture can be found in Alma 26:12, it reads, "Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever." As I read this scripture I knew that I was relying on myself more then I was the Lord, but I know that the Lord can do all things, and with him we can accomplish anything! And that is my testimony to all of you, we can do all things with the Lord on our side. He promises never to leave us alone, all we have to do is let him in and he will carry us to safety. I want to send with a quote from Sheri Dew, she is basically the bomb.com!

“Is it possible to be happy when life is hard? To feel peace amid uncertainty and hope in the midst of cynicism? Is it possible to change, to shake off old habits and become new again? Is it possible to live with integrity and purity in a world that no longer values the virtues that distinguish the followers of Christ?
“Yes. The answer is yes because of Jesus Christ, whose Atonement ensures that we need not bear the burdens of mortality alone. …
“Through the years I, like you, have experienced pressures and disappointments that would have crushed me had I not been able to draw upon a source of wisdom and strength far greater than my own. He has never forgotten or forsaken me, and I have come to know for myself that Jesus is the Christ and that this is His Church. With Ammon I say, ‘[For] who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy … ? Behold, … I cannot say the smallest part which I feel’ (Alma 26:16). I testify that in this, the twilight of the dispensation of the fulness of times, when Lucifer is working overtime to jeopardize our journey home and to separate us from the Savior’s atoning power, the only answer for any of us is Jesus Christ” -- Sheri Dew

I know, with Sheri Dew, that the only answer for any of us is Jesus Christ, I am forever grateful for him and his love and mercy!

Thanks so much for listening to yet another email from your favorite Sister Missionary, I hope you all enjoyed it! I'm so grateful to be in the Oregon Eugene Mission even if it is on fire (; I'm grateful to be one of the Lords servants in this area of his vineyard! I hope you have a great week and I'll hear from you next week! Lovely all! Work Hard!

---Remember who are are and who God EXPECTS you to become---

PS Next week is transfer week and I know that I will be going to the transfer spot because Sister Lunt is going home. So please send me your emails the night before and that would be great! Thanks so much!

This is what it is ALL about!

August 14, 2017

Hey Fan Club! It's been another week in paradise! I really saw what all of this work is about this week. So many miracles happened and I am grateful to be a missionary! It brings me more happiness then I have ever been able to have in my life. Also, I LOVE Oregon, so it is a perfect place to be doing his work.

This week we were able to take our investigator Pippi to a baptism that was happening for a little girl in our ward. Pippi is 9 and has the desire to be baptized but right now it is us trying to figure out how to explain to her dad that 8 is the age of accountability to be baptized. Especially because he doesn't want to sit down with us and have a lesson. So we have been trying to teach Pippi while the ward has been working on her dad. We took her to the baptism and she loved it! When the little girl came back in the room Pippi went up and personally congratulated her and then came up to me saying that she wants to get baptized! She has so ugh knowledge and has been coming to church for awhile now. We hope that we can talk to her dad more and that he will allow her. Her dad is a returning less active and he is a convert to the church himself, so right now he is also trying to learn some of the basics to have that knowledge. We will keep teaching, and praying, that is all that we can do!

This week I was able to experience something that really showed me what this work is all about. I had the opportunity this week to go and do Baptisms for the Dead in the Medford Temple with my recent convert Vic from Klamath Falls. They were doing a youth temple trip as well so I swear that the temple was full with everyone that I love! I was a little nervous driving down there and then when I was walking up someone saw me and ran to greet me! In that moment it felt like I was returning home! It was a neat experience. So Sister Lunt and I found a member ride, then Sister Roach and I went into the temple while Sister Lunt and Sister Roachs companion went and did some missionary work in Medford. It was so much fun to be reunited with my Klamath Family and as I was able to watch Vic do Baptisms for Family names that he was able to find through family history my heart was full. I knew that I had done the work I needed to help Vic get to the point that he could get to the temple and I was grateful to be a part of that experience. I am so grateful for the temple and for the work that goes on in there. I loved the spirit that was there and I truly knew that is what it was all about! Also, a girl named Jessica from Klamath was also able to come and do baptisms as well, and I spoke at her baptism! So it was really just an amazing day all around!

We got to go crabbing today for Pday!!! It was seriously so much fun! I didn't know what to expect and honestly I wasn't excited for it, BUT I LOVED IT! I started naming the crabs and everything haha. The Elders are teaching the man that took us with his family and his family are all members. He is actually on date to get baptized in October once his son comes home from his mission. So we had a lot of fun!!

This week Sister Lunt and I have the great opportunity to teach at Zone Conference! We are teaching about how asking questions in our teaching can help our investigators learn and grow. But most importantly how following the Spirit in all teaching situations is how we should teach. Pray for us (:

A Story from the Bible that has really struck a cord with me the last couple of months has been Christ healing the woman with the blood disease. It can be found in Mark 5:25-34. Well this week I read an article from LDS.org that was entitled "When you Reach for the Sacrament, You Reach for the Savior". I LOVE IT, GO LOOK IT UP! From the story of the woman we see one who is on her hands and knees, trying to reach for the Saviors robe, with the faith that if she touches even a little bit of it that she will be healed. Do we do the same thing when we reach for the sacrament? Do we have the faith like that woman that every time we reach for the sacrament or the Savior, that we can be made whole? The article then goes on to talk about how this woman was able to find the faith to reach out to the Savior. But I just want to testify that I know that as we reach for the Savior each week with the sacrament that he has his arms outstretched towards us. All we have to do is turn to him, reach for him and have faith in him. His Atonement is real, and it can be used in all of our lives. Because of our Savior we can all return to our Heavenly Father again someday. I will be forever in debt to him. So I invite you to reach for the Savior more in your life! Also, go read that article, if you need it, EMAIL ME!

Alright Fan Club, you survived yet another of my weekly emails. I am so grateful for my time serving the Lord and grateful for the miracles that I am able to be a part of every single day here in Oregon. I hope you all have a great week this next week and I will talk to you soon! LOVE YOU!
