Just Keep on Keeping on!

September 11, 2017

Hey Fan Club! It has been another crazy busy week here in the field! Literally Sister Huang and I keep saying to each other "We have not had a minute to catch our breathes!" Or so it seems anyway haha. Everyday this week came with another adventure and more miracles then I could've imagined. I am grateful that I was able to see Gods hand in our work this week! Also, to those of you just joining my weekly email, welcome! I finally put together my weekly email list, let me know if you would like to stay on or not, I will not be offended if you ask to be taken off! So if you haven't heard from me in over a year, it is because I have been very late in the bandwagon getting a list together, I am alive and doing fantastic in the land of Oregon!

On Monday we went on a really cool hike here in a near by area. It is called Gold and Silver Falls, although I think I am going to need to come back another time and experience it again because most of what I saw on Monday was smoke and trees haha but the falls were still beautiful. A family from the Coos Bay ward took us up there then took us to their cabin that they have up there as well and we had the opportunity to eat lunch with them. As they were talking they mentioned their daughter is serving a mission in Argentina, I believe, and they show us pictures! Low and behold I recognized their daughter, she was in my YSA ward in Ogden! This is seriously such a small world, especially in the church! Shout out to the amazing Mathias family for giving us a fun Pday last week!

This week Sister Huang and I got a new car, super epic. But we had to drive all the way to Eugene for this new car, wait and then come home. Altogether it took 9 hours, it was NUTS! We just hung out in the mission office while we waited, we were going to go and do work on campus or something but the air was so bad in Eugene they had it so no missionaries were even allowed to leave their apartments unless they were going to a lesson. So we just helped out where we could. We are now driving a nice Red Toyota Corolla. I thought red was going to be so awesome, but apparently it shows water spots more then the normal car haha, oops! It was fun while it lasted. But on the way home we talked about how we hadn't been able to do any work in our area and how we just needed to get to work. Right as we were pulling into town we got a call from a less active in the area who wants to get her kiddos involved in the youth program and that she wanted to sit and talk to us! WOW! Blessings upon Blessings!

I was able to go on 2 exchanges this week with Sisters in the Zone. It was a lot of fun and we saw many miracles as we went out and talked to people in our area. One of the sisters has been struggling with homesickness so it was nice getting to know her more and being able to find a way that me and my companion can help her as she is striving to get over this trial. We read the talk The First Great Commandment together by Elder Holland, I am pretty sure I have written about this talk in my weekly emails before but I again invite all of you to read it. So good. When we realize we are serving others because we love the Savior I know that it helps and that it gives us strength. I am grateful I have the opportunity to go out with these Sisters, I really think that I learn more from them then they will ever learn from me!

This week in our area Sister Huang and I were able to find 8 NEW INVESTIGATORS! All through tracting efforts. It is really funny to see the different people behind all the doors that we knocked on, but we were happy to be able to see the miracles that came from tracting this week!

We had an AMAZING lesson with Vanessa this week. For those of you who are just barely tuning into the weekly updates of Sister Harrison, Vanessa is one of our investigators right now who is really trying to find help. Things aren't going right for her in any shape or form at this point and she is just trying to find something that can give her a good foundation. One of her friends is a member of the church and introduced us. Well this week we had our first real lesson with her. We brought our relief society president and she is amazing might I add. Vanessa has a 3 year old son who is literally all over the place, and Sister Blackwell was able to contain him long enough for us to teach her the restoration. The spirit was so strong and when we asked her who Jesus Christ was to her she told us that he is her Savior, that she knows that he is there and that he loves her. And that she knew that He sent us to her. Man. This lady though. We finished teaching her and invited her to read the Book of Mormon, and then felt prompted to also invite her to be baptized October 21st! And she accepted! WOO HOO! She knows this is the foundation she needs and is even talking about moving up her date, miracles upon miracles people!

This week I taught Sister Huang the art of knock knock jokes. I tried to think of a good one... but the mission veil is a real thing and I could not think of any jokes, so please send me some! I did the banana 🍌 and orange 🍊 one haha but she didn't really understand! Then she thought she was getting the hang of it so she made her own:
Sister Huang: Knock knock
Sister Harrison: Whose there?
Sister Huang: Sister Huang
Sister Harrison: Sister Huang who?
Sister Huang: Missionary!
Haha, we have some work to do!

We had a really cool opportunity this week to take part in Make a Difference Day this week in the Coos Bay Stake. Every year they chose one ward in the stake and that ward works with the community and plans a service day for the whole stake to come and take part in. On Saturday we got to go and help in the City of Coquille. They had a lot of different projects planned like painting and sewing, but what did the missionaries get in charge of? Moving branches and trees haha. Of course. But you know when you want a job done, call the missionaries. We were able to have all 20 missionaries, including our senior couple, out helping this community. And let me tell you, all of us were feeling it the next day! We made probably 8 huge burn piles for the city to burn! They would come and cut down a tree and cut it into pieces, then we would come in and move it. By the end I think we all wanted a nap and a shower! Then we were able to have a lunch that was provided. I love being able to go and do service for the communities in which we are serving in, makes you just feel too good!

In church yesterday a Sister gave a talk on the talk entitled "Trust in the Lord and Lean Not" by Sister Cordon this last April Conference. It all goes along with one of my favorite scriptures, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” She then talked about how in the English language when we talk about leaning it usually means that we physically move towards one side. So in a way we are off center, but when we are off center in a spiritual sense that means that we are leaning away from the Savior. In our lives we need to strive to be centered spiritually, to rely on the Savior and not lean away from him spiritually. I know that as we trust in him and lean not in our own understanding that he will direct our paths. I am so grateful for this scripture and this talk. Go read it for yourself!

This next week in the OEM we are going to be having a visiting 70 here, and we are all pretty excited about that. So I am sure I will have a lot to talk about next week because Sister Huang and I get to go to 2 meetings with him, EPIC! But thanks for tuning in to another Sister Harrison Special! I am grateful for all of you and hope that you have a great and safe week! Love ya!

---Remember who you are and who God EXPECTS you to become---

A member gave us "Mormon Pears" literally like 25 of them. So many pears. Apparently they are from the pear orchard in Medford that the Church owns, hence Mormon Pears!

A bunch of missionaries got together for lunch the other day after District Meeting!
