Baptism, Jack Mormons & DUMPLINGS

9/25/2017

Another week has come and gone folks! I feel like I can not even keep track anymore about what happens during the weeks, they just fly by so quickly. But I know that we did see many many miracles this past week, because as we work hard we know the Lord is going to bless us! I am loving my area here in North Bend, Oregon! The weather are great and I feel like everyday we are meeting more and more people who are willing to listen and come closer to Jesus Christ!

Okay so the biggest miracle that we had this week was that we put someone on date for BAPTISM! And she was a real miracle. The Elders last Monday night told us that they found someone that they thought we would be better suited to teach and they scheduled an appointment for her the next day to meet us at the church. Well it had been a rough morning, we had met with someone who had been meeting with the missionaries in the past and they dropped us, said that they didn't want to meet with us anymore. We were pretty discouraged but put on our happy faces and went to the lesson that the Elders had set up for us, and we met Lindsey. She is 19 years old and just graduated from High School this year. She is attending the Community College here in town that starts classes this week. We started talking to her and getting to know her, she told us that she had never really had the opportunity to go to a church before. She went with some friends going up for herself never really had a church. As we continued to talk we said something to the affect of, "As you continue to meet with us and come closer to Jesus Christ you will have the desire to follow his example and be baptized." She then asked what she needed to do to get baptized, the spirit was so strong and for the next hour we talked about what she needed to do to be baptized! She is on date for October 28th! Super amazing experience. As we talked to her she has already read the Introduction to the Book of Mormon and the section with the witnesses, and said the other time she just kept thinking, "wow, this must be true!" Seriously, she was a blessing sent to us from Heavenly Father. We told the Elders that we know the way to missionary work in this area now, they go find, and we will teach haha! But really we are so grateful for Lindsey!

We went on exchanges this week with some sisters in the Zone, it was so much fun. I went with a sister who is just finishing her training this transfer, and it is so fun to be out with the ones who are still greenies! I learn so much from them. Funny experience with her while we were tracting we knocked on a door and a lady answered and said, "Oh girls we are Jack Mormons in this house!" We started talking to her and apparently her family line is through Lorenzo Snow, her mom and her grandma are members of the church but then it stopped with her mom. She said that she really loves the church but just never had an opportunity to join it! Super cool! So we kept talking with her and asked if we could come back, she then said no. WHAT THE. She said that she is more a spiritual person and not so much a religious person. But we kept talking and asked if she would be interested in coming to our Trunk or Treat coming up, trying to invite her to a more social gathering first, and she said yes! So hopefully we can get her and her kids to come and get to know them better and introduce them to people in the ward!

This week on exchanges Sister Huang, for dinner, taught us sisters how to make Chinese Dumplings, and I would be lying if I told you I only ate 5. Seriously we probably made over 100. SO MANY DUMPLINGS. But they were so good, and then the next day we fried them and made Potstickers. I don't think I could ever go to China, I would come back weighing 100 pounds more, haha!

We had the opportunity this week to go to what they called a Harvest Luncheon. It was put on by the other ward in the area but both wards were invited. It was all about missionary work and so they asked both sets of Sister Missionaries to come and talk about their missions. Apparently in the spring time they had a luncheon about seeds, and planting seeds. So in the fall they were talking about harvesting the seeds that we planted. It was a really fun time because they also had some sisters from the different wards talk about their missions years ago, one lady got up and said that every time she talks about her mission she cries, this will probably be me, you have all been warned. But it was cool to talk about what drives people to share the gospel with others, if you think about it WE ARE SO BLESSED. I AM SO BLESSED. I was raised in a home that taught me gospel principles and helped me become the person I am today. I am blessed to have the gospel in my life and so many people out there don't have that blessing, I think this is why I share the gospel, the reason why I came on the mission. Because I am so blessed that I don't even have an excuse to not do it. And I am grateful for that.

We had a lesson this week with a lady named Candy. Candy a couple of weeks ago was invited to go to the other wards BBQ that they were doing by a member. Well she showed up to the BBQ and apparently the member never showed up! But Candy did and met a bunch of people. She has taken the lessons before and when we met with her two weeks ago she didn't seem too interested but said that we could come back. So we went back this week and were expecting more of a socializing visit and trying to teach the gospel as we talked with her. But then she started asking us questions! Mainly asking what makes us different from other Christian churches! It was so AWESOME! Anyway, we invited her to the Women's Session and she didn't show up... but that was because she ended up having to work! We found out a member in the ward knows her so we are hoping to go over this week and meet with her again!

We had the opportunity to have interviews with President and Sister Orton this week! I don't think I express this enough but I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. Seriously, they are like parents to me and I am grateful to have them. Not much to talk about with the actual interview part, but I just love them a lot and I am very very grateful for them (:

Alright, all of you women out there. I sure hope that you watched the Women's General Session this past weekend and if you didn't THATS OKAY because you can go repent right now and watch it on lds.org, because it is ALREADY THERE! I love conference, aka Missionary Super Bowl. It is just too good. I can say that I received a lot of answers to my prayers during this session of conference and I am very eager for next weekend to come! I loved all of the talks and have so many quotes that I could share with you today but I think this quote from President Uchtdorf is what I am going to share today:
"Choosing the path of discipleship will lead to untold happiness and fulfillment of your divine nature."
He talked about how we can choose our destination and some of the stops along the way. Sometimes trials may come up that we have no control of, but as we continue to choose our final destination and remember our divine nature, we know that we will get there! And I am so grateful for the message because I know that it is going to bring the most happiness!

Sister Huang and I were able to teach Gospel Principles yesterday. It was on Eternal Marriage, she kept looking at me and saying "I don't have an Eternal Family, so I think that you should just teach this!" And I had not even thought about that once when we were asked to talk and then I felt so bad! But the awesome thing about Sister Huang is that she is so excited about the future. As she got up and shared her conversion story to the class and expressed that she doesn't have an eternal family now, but that she is so excited for one in the future, the spirit was felt. I was grateful for her courage in getting up and sharing her strong testimony! And I am grateful to have the knowledge that my family is eternal and that as I continue to do all that I can here to keep the commandments and the promises that I have made with Heavenly Father, that I can live with them FOREVER!

Thanks for tuning into another special with Sister Harrison and Sister Huang! I hope you were able to see all of the miracles that we are having here in Oregon, I am grateful for all of you and for your love, prayers and support. I hope that you have a great week this week and that you remember how blessed you really are! Love ya!

Love, Your Favorite Sister Missionary,

Sister Harrison ❤
